No need to overthink this one. Start with swapping the items you use the most for small changes.
Even though you rinse them off, facial cleanser ingredients still interact with your skin and absorb while cleansing. Swapping to a clean formula ensures you’re not rubbing sulfates, synthetic fragrance, or hormone disruptors into your pores every morning and night.
Unlike cleanser or toner, your moisturizer lingers. It soaks into your skin and works all day (or all night) long. So if it’s loaded with questionable ingredients like parabens, synthetic fragrance, or silicones… you’re wearing that stuff for hours.

Most conventional antiperspirants use aluminum salts to block your sweat glands, which can interfere with your body’s natural detox process. Also, If it’s near your lymph nodes and breast tissue.. think twice about what you’re putting there.
As far as our lips go—between sipping coffee, kissing your loved ones, and biting your lip in deep thought, you’re ingesting bits of that balm or lipstick every single day.

Why skip them: Parabens are preservatives used to prevent mold and bacteria—but they can also mimic estrogen in the body and have been linked to hormone disruption.
2. Phthalates(hides within “fragrance”)
Why skip them: These are used to make products flexible or scents stick around longer, phthalates are known endocrine disruptors and have been linked to reproductive issues.
3. Synthetic Fragrance / “Fragrance” or “Parfum”
Why skip it: This little word can hide dozens (even hundreds) of undisclosed chemicals—including allergens and hormone disruptors. If a product won’t tell you what’s inside the fragrance blend, it’s a red flag to dig further or seek another option
Think of it as: The mysterious ingredient in your skincare. Smells great… until you realize you don’t know what’s in it.
Why skip them: These foaming agents are harsh on skin, causing irritation or dryness—especially for sensitive skin types. I personally struggle with this and find that our skin needs more hydration and less of the stripping effect as we age.
5. PEGs (Polyethylene Glycols)
Why skip them: Often used to soften and thicken products, PEGs can be contaminated with carcinogens like 1,4-dioxane during processing. Not exactly what you want in your soothing and nourishing serum.
Why skip them: Yes, the same stuff used in embalming fluid (and the manufacturing of our clothing)! Ugh. Even in small doses, it’s linked to cancer and allergic skin reactions. It’s just best to avoid this ingredient.
Making the switch to clean beauty doesn’t have to happen overnight. Start with what you use most—your cleanser, moisturizer, deodorant, and those little things (like lip balm) that live in your purse and touch your skin every day. Each swap is a small, intentional act of self-care and a more nourishing beauty routine for you and your family.
