Transitioning to cleaner, non-toxic, and clean-conscious products can benefit the entire family. Our family made this transition when I became pregnant with my first daughter.
Just before my first pregnancy, I was in full swing with regular use of hair relaxers, fragranced soaps and lotions, and highly fumed household cleaners, not knowing where to start or what to replace.
It’s been about 12 years now that my family made this transition and better than ever can attest that the right choice of clean-conscious product matters. Our goal has always been to be aware and more conscious, not perfection.
There is a large range of pricing just as with conventional products.
Here are just a few of our household’s favorite nontoxic, clean-conscious products:
Non-toxic Living
We can’t say enough about Branch Basics. They’re a great option to replace conventional household products with non-toxic cleaning options as their concentrate is effective for most household cleaning needs. We have a regular subscription for their concentrate as it’s able to solve your cleaning needs while also being super gentle, is without fragrance, and truly gets the job done. Our household carries multiple bottles for simple spills clean up or tougher things like grimy stoves. Branch Basics is our one-and-done!
Products to try from Branch Basics:
- The concentrate!
- Use it to make all of your multi surface cleaners. Add essential oils from Revive to give a fresh herbal scent.
- Reusable bottles
- Wool dryer balls
I learned about this company when researching a good laundry detergent for my infant son during a major eczema flare-up. Their laundry products are super gentle and provide exactly what you need for sensitive skin. We love Attitude’s mission to use less plastic and also their plant reforestation efforts. They’re also vegan with ingredients of 94.9% natural origin.
Products to try from Attitude:
ECOS
Ecos abides by a “nasty list” of products they avoid using when formulating their products. ECOS brand is clean-conscious, non-toxic and their product lines are great for the whole family. Their fragrance tends not to be as heavily scented which works well for people with more sensitive skin.
Product’s we’ve tried from ECOS brand:
Revive is an essential oil brand that I happened upon one day and have been fairly addicted to since. Revive’s products get used in our household everyday as an additive to our regular household cleaners since we opt to not use products with conventional or aerated fragrance.
Revive essential oils are represented as being non-toxic with 100% therapeutic-grade essential oils derived from plants. They recently formulated a laundry detergent that contains their essential oils for fragrance. We love the fragrance but find this may be an irritant if you tend to have more sensitive skin.
Products we’ve tried from Revive:
- Essential oils- Protect Blend and Immunity Blend– we tend to place these in carrier products such as our household cleaner spray.
- Laundry detergent
- Dish detergent tablets
Zum brand is a great option for someone wanting to venture into clean products while also maintaining a fragrantly natural aroma. Zum has formulated a variety of products to suit all of your needs from household cleaners, laundry detergent, body soap, skincare, and more. Many of their products are vegetarian or vegan. Our family has tried a wide variety of their offerings and we have never been disappointed.
Products we’ve tried from Zum:
- Laundry soap– their scents are amazing but keep in mind they may not be for those with sensitive skin.
- Skincare
- Bar Soaps- made out of goat’s milk, we love their scents and they make the entire bathroom fragrant and smelling fresh.
- Sea Salt and Frankincense and Myrrh are both favorites in our house.

Taking these small steps can have a big impact on your health and the environment. Every small effort counts, and over time, these new habits will become habitual.
